Hic Jacet Corpus de Daniely Blackford Filius de Johannes Blackford Octobris vicessimo quinto Anno Domini 1681 Aetatis suae 59. When I was young I ventur'd Life and Bloode both for my Kinge and my countrie’s Goode. In elder years my care was chief to bee Soldier for Him that shed His Bloode for me.

Its position in the church aisle means it has been heavily eroded by centuries of worshippers. Inscription is largely illegible.

Memorial Notes:

Daniel Blackford served in Earl of Northampton's Regiment of Horse, where he is listed as a quartermaster to Capt Clarke (https://wiki.bcw-project.org.uk/royalist/horse-regiments/earl-of-northampton). Daniel was captured following following the Royalist assault on Compton Wynyates in January 1645. He later returned to Oxhill and became churchwarden there in 1679-80.
