Sir Thomas Herbert was a supporter of Parliament who served as a parliamentary commissioner to the Earl of Essex's army from March 1644 and later to the New Model Army. He was gentleman of the bedchamber to King Charles I form 1647 until the King's execution in 1649. Herbert subsequently served as a parliamentary commissioner with the New Model Army in Ireland.
